Sorry it's taken until November to post about Bat Day....I've been a tad busy. We had an awesome day!!!! We broke up our three classes into three different groups and had each group experience Mrs. Zauner's bat fact puzzle, Mrs. Fauvell's bat bone activity, and my Bat Trunk activity where we were able to explore bat bodies and look at two different bat skeletons. After our stations we all gathered together for a Reading Rainbow movie about bats and how they live. Here are a few photos.
Not sure why this is upside down. :)

We had a fantastic time connecting with Texas yesterday. We are studying the life cycle and migration of the Monarch Butterfly. There were a lot of amazing facts that were new to us. Some of the facts that were new to some of us were:
- While inside the chrysalis the caterpillar turns into goo while changing into a butterfly!
- Montana's Monarch Butterflies migrate to Southern California while Monarchs from the other side of the Rocky Mountains migrate to Mexico.
- The migration of Monarchs are in danger due to tree cutting in Mexico.
- Generation 1-3 of the Monarch Butterfly live for only 30 days while the 4th generation will live up to 8 months.
- A male butterfly has brown spots on it's lower part of it's wings.
- There are actually 5 stages of the life cycle if you include when the caterpillar first hatches.
Amazing information we received yesterday. We can't wait for our next video conference.

Last week we had an afternoon with Mr. Short. He talked to us about safety, many types of safety. We talked about Halloween safety, weapon safety, stranger danger, and fire safety. The students really listened and had a lot of questions and comments and of course some stories. Thank you Steve!!!!

It is day three and this year is going to be awesome like all the rest. My kids are settling into their routines. This is going to be a great year. Today we had our first birthday of the school year. This is Taylor. We each chose a word to describe Taylor. Her classmates love her.

Today we created cherry blossom branches. I found this idea on Pinterest. The original idea came from the blog Alphamom. It's a fun idea. Simply paint the branch and then dip a soda bottle bottom into pink paint for the flowers. Thank you Mrs. Pluid for helping out with this project!

Yesterday we created our catapults! Students were given materials then they had to come up with a way to create their own catapult. We will launch different projectiles on Monday and estimate and record actual distances our projectiles traveled. More photos to come Monday!
