Our last hour of the day was devoted to an art project. I found this cityscape lesson on the internet @ http://kidsartists.blogspot.com/ . The students really seemed to enjoy it. Some thought it was the coolest thing they've ever seen! It was a lot of fun! Here is how we did it. First I made cityscape templates out of tag board. I gave each student a template and they put the template on their black construction paper (starting at the top of construction paper). They then proceeded to make thick chalk lines on the top of the template. Once they had a line of chalk across the top of the entire template the students used their fingers to "push" out the chalk onto the construction paper. This give the appearance of city lights. I had them then trade a template with their desk buddy and start the process over making another layer of the city below the first. Once they had their templates finished they went back in and used yellow chalk for the building windows. Then they created stars and a moon. It was a simple and quick project.

Our 2nd graders meet every week with their 5th and 6th grade reading/writing buddies. We alternate reading and writing. Today we met with our buddies and wrote and drew about caterpillars. Our 5th grade students guided our second graders. This meeting time is extremely important to our 2nd graders. They look forward to meeting every week.

Parents and students please if you find yourselves on our blog page bookmark it, follow it, you name it and you will follow what is currently going on in our classroom. Please feel free to comment on posts and photos. Enjoy your child's work!
This is my first blog. My goal is to use this blog to post what we are currently doing in class. I am planning to post student work on here as well. I would also love to blog all of my teaching ideas and bulletin boards that I've created. I want to use this blog to not only communicate with parents but with other teachers as well.
